This is our understanding of the current WEEE regulations
-
Anyone producing, importing or assembling products containing electrical parts has to pay towards a fund for its recycling at the end of its life. This is called a compliance scheme.
-
All electrical waste has to be segrgated and disposed of seperately.
-
Premises, not companies, disposing of more than 500Kg per year of hazardous waste need a premises code. A company with three sites each disposing of over 500Kg per year need a premises code for each site.
-
At the point of disposal it is up to the disposer to show due diligence and ensure that waste is given to appropriately licenced companies. Waste includes unwanted working equipment. A correctly filled HWCN (Hazardous Waste Consignment Note) or WTN (Waste Transfer Note) is important evidence.
